Mistakes I’ve made

…While running my very small and very new business:

Not asking for reviews. And I still can’t bring myself to ask for them, I just can’t. Because I don’t ask for them, I’m super geeked when I get them. And don’t let them be photo reviews, oh Lord!

Pricing my items too low…

Shipping cost: either too low, too high or it simply doesn’t make sense.  I’ve recently had to refund the shipping fee because it didn’t feel right to charge for an item that I could easily send via letter instead of a small parcel.

Offering free shipping when I shouldn’t have and shipping to certain places, namely North America, free of charge when I shouldn’t have. My first few orders came from the USA and I was so excited. The thing is, I almost paid more for shipping than my customers paid for their orders. I’ve shipped them but that was a lesson learned, an expensive one.  I’ve since learned that there’s nothing wrong with canceling orders for that reason. What is a business if it’s not profitable?

Giving too many freebies. That is the one. I’m a generous person by nature so I think nothing about giving and giving but my business is not a charity and my products have value and are of great quality so why do I keep giving away so much as if I’m trying to get rid of junk? My beloved customers, you get ONE freebie going forward, DASSIT!

Ps: the customers you go above and beyond for are NEVER the ones to leave  glowing reviews. Funny how the human mind works, lol.
